How to choose prunes?

Not all dried fruits sold in modern stores can be bought. More than 70% of them were subjected to chemical treatment, potentially hazardous to health. Therefore, when buying prunes, first of all, you need to pay attention to its appearance. It is on it that you can track the quality of the product. Natural prunes have a matte black color. Only this and no other. If it has a glossy tint, then it was treated with glycerin. They do this to give dried fruits a marketable appearance, as well as canning, thanks to which they do not deteriorate for several months. Some manufacturers use sulfur dioxide for this purpose. This is an even more dangerous treatment technology because it leads to chronic headaches, indigestion and allergic reactions. Pregnant women consuming foods coated with sulfur dioxide are fraught with impaired fetal development.

A few words about the quality of drying. Ideally, plums should languish in the shade for several months. But a rare company can wait so long. Therefore, to speed up the process, fruits are placed in gasoline or gas ovens. There, under the influence of high temperatures, they crack, and carcinogens seep through the damaged skin into the prunes. Well, there is no need to talk about the safety of any useful components with such processing technology.

The “right” prune should be dark, dry and ugly. Also give preference to fruits with seeds, if they are in the assortment. And be sure to sniff the product - the aroma of smoke and gasoline indicates a chemical treatment. The taste of natural prunes should be slightly sweet, with a characteristic acidity.
