How to make applesauce for babies

Starting from 5 or 6 months, complementary foods are introduced into the nutrition of the baby. It used to be that applesauce was perfect for this. However, some babies refuse mashed vegetables after tasting fruit ones. Therefore, first babies are accustomed to vegetables, and only then apples and other sweet fruits are added.

How to make applesauce for babies

Many parents buy ready-made complementary foods in jars, although almost everyone knows how to make applesauce for babies.

Buy or cook

Buying, of course, is easier. Saves parents time, saves due to the health of the baby. Yes, yes, some manufacturers do not always accurately write on the label what is added to the jar. And you yourself saw from which apples mashed potatoes at the plant? Personally, I saw what exactly the representatives of one of the most famous baby food factories in Russia came to buy in our garden enterprise. Perhaps these fruits were intended for something else, but that plant, except for mashed potatoes, produces nothing.

There may now be stricter quality control and high fines. But then, after everything I saw, personally for myself, I firmly decided to make applesauce myself.

Spent 10 minutes cooking is much more valuable for the child than your dubious "savings". Moreover, for the price of one jar, you can buy 5-6 good medium-sized apples and cook from them much more healthy snacks. Well, and who is saving now? You decide.

In addition, it is better to give babies puree natural puree, without salt and sugar. And at the enterprises, in addition to this, starch for thickening and preservatives are added to the jar. Does this need to feed the baby?

Even the ugliest apples from their garden are much healthier and more nutritious than canned puree from unknown fruits. Cook for yourself, do not spare 10 minutes for your sun.

How to cook applesauce

The recipe is actually indecently simple, you will make more preparations. It will take a green apple and possibly filtered clean water. The fruit must be without dents, deep scratches or other damage. Wash it thoroughly with a brush under clean running water. Then there are two options, bake or cook.

Roasting

The method is good because you do not have to stand at the stove. Place parchment paper or a piece of foil on a baking sheet. Put the whole apple on top. Bake until soft and cool. Remove the peel and remove the seeds with partitions - a matter of two minutes. Knead with a fork or grater - generally 30 seconds, because the flesh is almost like a mashed potato. And that’s it, you can try.

Cooking
The method takes a little longer, only because of the preliminary cleaning of the fruit. The peel must be removed, the core cut out. Next, the pulp is cut into small pieces. The geometric shape does not matter. Put a cut in a small bucket or bowl, splash water. Quite a bit, about 50 g per fruit. Put on fire and steam for 5-7 minutes. Cool, pass through a sieve.

A blender greatly simplifies the task, but only if you are sure that you have cleaned all the bones and partitions. Otherwise, the mechanism will grind them as well. And such a complementary feeding is not at all desirable for a baby. Although, well, what prevents the use of a regular strainer? You don’t need to rub 3 kilos of apples!

By the way, if there is no desire to wash a sieve or a grater later, then just boil the whole apple. And then act as if baked. The peel is easily removed, the core is taken out entirely. A few movements with a fork and fine applesauce on a plate.

Lure for the future? Easy!

Store apples are completely unsuitable for feeding infants. And in winter, you can’t find homemade apples on the shelves. What to do to those parents whose baby will have to try the first lure in the cold season or in early spring? Take care in advance, that's what. How to cook applesauce for babies for the winter? Yes, very easy! You will need:

Apple puree for the future

  • green apples, 2 kg
  • clear water, 1 l
  • granulated sugar, 2 tbsp. l

Fruits are thoroughly washed, peeled and peeled. Cut into pieces of arbitrary shape, put in a saucepan. Sugar and water are added, brought to a boil. Cook over medium heat for 12 minutes. Then wipe through a sieve or puree with a submersible blender. Boil another 12 minutes. Remove from heat and lay out in small jars. Cork with tight lids, wrap in a towel or blanket. After cooling, they are stored in a refrigerator or cellar.

Everything is simple, quick and you can meet the winter fully armed. If parents fear that sugar is present in such a blank, then in vain. Its share is so small that the total amount of mass will not do any harm.

Tip. You can cook this puree without sugar at all. Only it will have to be stored strictly in the refrigerator to prevent fermentation or souring.

Which apples to choose

Of course, it is best to take your own fruits. So you will be sure of the quality of the finished product. Only certainly green or yellow varieties. From them, there is almost never an allergy. But fruits with a red or pink skin tone sometimes sin by this.

But in any case, do not buy imported fruits, especially if they are not in season. Such apples are stored for months. To do this, they are treated with special preparations and genetically modified varieties are bred. Do not rush to shove the chemical muck to the baby, he will still have time to bite it enough for his life.

Some parents think that the apple from their garden is too sour for the baby. And supposedly he will refuse to eat such mashed potatoes. Nonsense! Reason logically. From birth, he ate the same thing, mother's milk or a special mixture. And here is a completely different taste, aroma, texture. If before feeding, he did not try sugar, and this is unlikely (normal parents do not give sweet things to infants at all), then the peanut will not refuse apple puree.

When you gave any kind of vegetable puree to the baby before the apple, you probably saw how he reaches for a spoon? So he is interested in new tastes. Feel free to use sour apples. Only, of course, do not quite “tear your eyes out”.

Useful Tips

Applesauce

  1. Based on apple complementary foods, you can create multi-component mashed potatoes, gradually adding other ingredients. For example, carrots or pumpkins are rarely liked by children. But they are very useful, they contain many vitamins, fiber, nutrients. Often, an attempt to feed the child ends with spitting, stained with vests and inflated mother's nerves. Try adding vegetables to apples little by little. You will see, things will go smoothly. Moreover, such a base is suitable for almost all fruits, vegetables, cream and cottage cheese.
  2. How to calculate the daily dose of applesauce? We increase the age in months tenfold. For example, the baby is 11 months old. So per day he should eat no more than 110 g of fruit complementary foods.
  3. By the way, you need to start giving it in the same way as any other. First, literally a quarter of a teaspoon. Then a day or two carefully observe the baby. At any slightest deviation (the color of the skin has changed, the stool has deteriorated, the tummy is swollen, the temperature has appeared), they stop giving apples. The next time you can try no earlier than 3 weeks. And then, if the baby's condition returned to normal. But such a reaction to green apples is extremely rare.
  4. If the fruits themselves are sweet and juicy, then you can add less water during cooking.Just watch carefully so that the mashed potatoes do not burn.
  5. For the first feeding, never use a raw apple! It can harm the delicate stomach of the baby with a high concentration of acids. But heat-treated, on the contrary, normalizes stool and improves intestinal motility.
  6. If your child has already eaten and refuses to eat applesauce, then never leave it for later. It’s better to eat it yourself, and later prepare a new one for the child. Vitamins are useful for you, too, and you will not be able to treat the peanut with an oxidized mass.
  7. It happens that after cooking the fruit is still harsh. It is not scary and depends on the variety. In this case, just boil them a little more.
  8. In your garden, choose an apple with a wormhole. It is proved that it is a 100% environmentally friendly fruit. Naturally, damage is removed during cooking.
