Wild cats are considered Brazilian shorthair, or, as they are also called, aboriginal cats that have lived in Brazil since the beginning of their development. It is worth noting that, indeed, representatives of this breed were not artificially removed, but appeared on their own. They lived for many years, walked the streets of South America, and not so long ago they still paid attention to them. The reason this species was ignored is the typical color and normal cat appearance. But, nevertheless, despite their simplicity, many believe that there is something special in them, and they are not as simple as they might seem at first glance.
History of breed origin
Only in the 80s of the last century, on ordinary cats roaming the Brazilian streets, people noticed - people specializing in animal breeding. When they realized that they turned their eyes to something very valuable, they decided that together with the Association of Cat Lovers, it was necessary to make these cats a national breed. And as it became known, their dream came true.
At the end of the 20th century, namely, in 1999, ordinary cats from Brazil, which, in appearance, have no features, were recognized as a separate breed. And now the country of South America can be proud that their country has such an asset. After that, the active breeding of the Brazilian Shorthair began, although at that time it was known only in the country.
Breed description
Brazil is also celebrated as a country in which very beautiful women live. And they are so good that the places of the best in the category of models remain with them. The Brazilian cat is not far behind, and also occupies a leading place.
If we talk about the distinctive features of this breed, then it is worth noting the following:
Head
The first thing that can be noted in cats of this species is their small size. The head is also small in size, with the shape slightly elongated. The nose of a Brazilian short-haired cat is not very short, but, nevertheless, smoothly passes into the forehead. The width of the nose does not change, it is the same throughout its plane. The chin of this cat sticks out a little. If we talk about the ears, they are located quite widely, in size they are small, but soft to the touch, slightly rounded. A white Brazilian shorthair cat, in most cases, will have blue eyes. If it is a silver-colored cat, the eyes may be green. Speaking about cats of any other class, it is worth noting that they mainly have yellow eyes, copper.
Body
The body of the cat commemorates the shape of the rectangle. It is not large, we can say that it is medium in size. And also the cat's paws are quite strong and muscular. After all, muscularity is a distinctive feature of this breed.The front and hind limbs are also of medium length, and the legs themselves are small in size.
Speaking of the tail, it is worth noting that it is proportional to the body of the cat. At the base it is a little wide, and tapering towards the end.
Speaking generally about cats of this breed, it can be noted that all the bends of the body are quite harmonious. Sexually mature individuals gain weight about 3-5 kg.
Color, wool
When it comes to wool and the color of the Brazilian Shorthair, it is worth noting that she absolutely has no undercoat. The only health problems these cats face are related to their coat and digestive system. Helminth infection is considered common among Brazilians. And all because they have a very strange habit - to take everything in their mouths and drag that “wrong” lies.
Experts say that the cat can become infected with almost 82 types of worms, and this applies only to Russia and Ukraine, because they are common only in these territories. At the same time, 32 species of helminths can infect a person from an animal. Therefore, it is worthwhile to periodically conduct antihelminthic prevention of worms in your cat so that she does not get sick. And she lives for a long time, the average life expectancy of a British woman reaches 20 years.
Since we are already talking about parasites, it is worth noting that even if the cat is not a street one, but a domestic one, then it is necessary to give it pills for worms. The frequency of prevention is once every three months. If there is a choice between tablets or drops at the withers, one hundred should choose the first option, since it is not so dangerous to the animal’s health.
How to keep and care
It is necessary to comb the cat every week in order to eliminate dead hair from its coat, which could not have accidentally eaten them. And by the way, even if the cat is constantly combed, she still needs to help remove lumps of wool from her stomach. Such a problem is encountered not only by all cleanly specimens. The fact is that over time, wool accumulates in the stomach of the animal. For its removal, specially designed types of feed, or special herbs, are used.
If the cat is neat, then she takes care of herself. But sometimes it’s still worth checking the cleanliness of the ears, as well as the eyes. And to accustom the animal to hygienic procedures is better since childhood.
How to feed the Brazilian Shorthair?
If you choose between a large number of feeds, then you should give your preference to premium feed. Such cats are not picky at all, and even if you offer them easier food, then she will not refuse it. But is it worth it? After all, the health of a pet is much more important.
You can also feed the cat natural food, which includes meat along with fermented milk products. Any fresh fish is best excluded from the diet, because through it you can become infected with worms.
It is worth saving your pet and not giving him chicken skin or starchy vegetables for food, because, as experienced breeders note, not all cats have the digestive system in good condition. It is also not permissible to give animals of this breed red vegetables. The digestive tract of a cat is not able to digest such food.
