Pepper Red elephant - description and characteristics of the variety

Red elephant is a mid-season variety of sweet bell pepper. Harvesting can be carried out in 110-115 days from the moment of planting seedlings in open ground. The variety gives a high yield, both indoors and outdoors.

With proper care and favorable climatic conditions, the fetus can reach 300 grams. With one bush, with proper agricultural technology, you can collect up to two kilograms of product.

Red elephant pepper is used for preparing lecho, ketchups and other preparations, and it is also good in fresh form. Ripe fruits acquire a cone-shaped elongated shape; as they ripen, they acquire a dark red hue. The bush is quite powerful, low, sprawling, with a dark green leafy cover and a powerful root system.

Growing seedlings

First of all, it is necessary to conduct the hardening of seeds in a weak solution of potassium permanganate and carry out the treatment with fungicide agents. This is necessary to prevent the occurrence of fungal diseases. After you need to make a rejection of spoiled seeds. For this, the seeds are poured with a glass of water, those that come up are considered marriage.

Place the remaining seeds in wet gauze for several days. When the seeds swell, they can be planted in small peat pots or cups.

When planting, do not deepen the seeds too deep, this can significantly slow down their germination. Do not sow seeds in large pots, because their root system develops slowly.

Start growing seedlings 65 days before the expected moment of planting in open ground. To get good seedlings, the temperature should beat no lower than twenty degrees. In order for the plant to feel comfortable after planting in the ground, it is necessary to take the seedlings outside for hardening for 1.5-2 hours daily several weeks before planting.

Care

Pepper has a rather powerful root system; more than three copies should not be placed on one square meter, as they will compete for nutrients, light and water.

An important point is watering. This crop does not tolerate drought, but also does not favor excess water. Excessive watering can lead to fungal diseases and decay of the plant. Do not let the earth dry completely, but do not overdo it. Watering should be done directly under the root, as otherwise there is a risk of sunburn.

Use only warm and preferably settled water for irrigation. During the growing season, laying flower buds watering should be plentiful and regular.

Do not forget about the stepsoning procedure. It will help to direct all energy to the growth of fruits, and not to the development of the bush. But remember, this procedure can be carried out no more than once every ten days, at a time to remove no more than three processes.

If the pepper will be grown on poor soils, then regularly feed the plants with complex fertilizers, if the soil is nutritious, three times of fertilizing is enough.

When growing Bulgarian pepper Red Elephant in the garden you will encounter a small problem. A site is, as a rule, an open territory; wind walks along it, which creates uncomfortable conditions for plants. Pepper is recommended to be grown in places protected from the wind as much as possible.

Bush formation

In order for the culture to be grown as vertical, the bush must be limited in growth in its first fork. When forming in the first branching, two processes are left, which are the main ones. In each subsequent fork, only two shoots are left.With this method of formation, the bush reaches 1-1.5 m in height.
