Javanese or Javanese cat belongs to the family of long-haired domestic cats of oriental breeds. This breed was bred by breeders, it flows the blood of Balines, Siamese and short-haired cats of color-point color.
Breed history
North America is considered to be the homeland of the Javanese. In the late 70s, this breed appeared due to the efforts of the Canadian M. Davis and E. Sender, who bred a new type of Balinese. The task of the breeders was to produce other color-point colors of the Balinese breed, in addition to the classic one, called Siamese. The breed was recognized in 79 of the last century.
The name Javanese was borrowed from the island of Java, which is adjacent to Bali, despite the fact that these cats have never visited it.
Description and Standards
The Javanese cat is of average size, weighing from 2 and a half to 5 kilograms. The breed standards of the Balinese and Javanese cats differ only in permissible colors.
Internationally accepted standards for CFA Javanese cats:
- Torso. Medium in size, long and slim with a long, beautiful neck. Perfectly matching good skeleton with elastic muscles. The hips and shoulders are a continuation of the smooth lines of the hull. The width of the hips does not exceed the width of the shoulders. The abdomen looks fit and does not protrude from the body.
- Wool. Middle length. The longest cat hair on the tail. Soft and thin, no undercoat.
- Head. It has an average size, elongated wedge-shaped, the breed is characterized by proportionality with respect to the body. The outlines of the head expand to the ears in the direction from the nose of the animal. The structure of the skull is clearly visible if the face is smoothed by hand. The crown and nose should form a straight line without bends in profile, while there should be no bulges below the eyes. The center of the chin and the end of the cat’s nose with the correct bite form the correct line without angles.
- Eyes. They are medium in size, almond-shaped, normal fit. Ideally combined with the shape of the wedge-shaped head and ears of the animal. They have a certain inclination towards the nose. Ideally, they should be saturated blue.
- The ears. Large enough in relation to the size of the head. The base at the head is wide, with a pointed tip. Perfectly complement the shape of the wedge-shaped head.
- Nose. Long and even.
- Tail. Long enough in relation to the body, and at the same time thin. Tapering gradually to the tip. The hair of the hair on the tail is special, resembling a plume.
- Paws Forelegs shorter than hind legs. They are thin and at the same time quite long.
The nature of javanese
Javanese cats are very attached to their owners and rarely part with them, preferring to be at arm's length. They love to bask with the owner on the sofa and love when they are picked up. Javanese are not as obstinate as Siamese cats, but they inherited stubbornness from them. They like to be important and keep everything under control.
Yavanzians have an extraordinary cat intellect, they are inherent in dexterity and some "sportiness". In childhood, as kittens, they play a lot and love to climb everywhere, using claws. It is better to walk adult cats with a leash and train them to perform simple tricks.
The Javanese people should have special cat toys in order to keep them busy, otherwise the necessary things in the house may suffer.Such a cat is suitable for the active owner - an extrovert, but by no means calm and pedantic people.
These cats love to communicate and make friends, they need a company for an interesting and collective pastime. Alone, they do not suffer much, but communication brings them much more pleasure.
How to care for javanese and properly maintain it?
Fortunately, the descendants of the Siamese do not complain about their health. It was from them that they inherited its high potential. The problems that may arise include: amyloidosis, asthma, congenital heart defects, gastrointestinal tract disorders, neurological problems. Most often, such diseases arise due to poor heredity. Cats with such problems should be excluded from breeding. Often it is javanese that has the misfortune to suffer from congenital strabismus.
Javanese cats live, on average, for about 15 years.
Active Javanese kittens require an additional dose of B vitamins in their diet. They spend them very quickly thanks to extreme physical activity. To make up for the deficiency of this vitamin, you can use brewer's yeast by adding to the food on the tip of a knife. In order for the animal’s coat to be shiny and healthy, its nutrition must be complete and balanced. Special foods containing amino acids and zinc can be used. At its core, there is no individual approach to the nutrition of representatives of this particular breed.
The hair of a Javanese cat is quite unpretentious, since it is not complemented by undercoat. Therefore, it does not require careful care and special attention. It is quite enough to bring beauty to the pet by combing about 1-2 times during the week. Bathing a cat should be as rare as possible and better only out of necessity. Also, the pet is rarely required to conduct hygienic procedures for the ears and eyes, when necessary.
To preserve the health of the teeth they need to be cleaned with a special paste and a brush, once a week is enough.
Colors
The variety of point colors of javanese is what distinguishes them from balineses. But the main thing is the presence of characteristic marks. There are no two identical cats, like people on the planet.
Javanese cats usually have the following colors:
- Link-point colors in all possible colors: from blue to tortie-point.
- Pathicolor points in any color combinations that are characteristic of them.

Point marks of various shades, but the main color of the coat is white. The smoky and silver shades belong to the group of these colors.
- Gold with a pink nose.
- Cream with a pink nose.
- Fauns with a soft pink nose.
- Cinnamon with a beige nose.

It is better to buy a kitten of any breed in a good eminent nursery. As for javanese, in the CIS countries they are not too common and the choice of sellers is small.
In the Russian Federation you can find several nurseries in the Moscow region. There are no Javanese nurseries in Ukraine and Belarus, but there are private owners with these animals.
To buy a pet from a private person, you need to have patience and carefully double-check everything before making a purchase.
