Characteristics and description of tomato

Since the variety is not hybrid, its seeds can be collected every year and subsequently grown by yourself without buying seed in specialized stores. The seeds obtained this season for the next year are already suitable for planting, and their germination is high - at least 80%. From one bush per season, you can collect up to 10 kg of delicious fruits.

  1. The fruits of this variety are large, tasty and beautiful. Tomato Iceberg does not belong to the group of hybrid varieties; it is from the group of mid-season determinant and semi-determinant varieties of tomatoes. The plant can reach a height of 1.2 m, in some cases it requires tying, as well as the removal of stepsons. The bush is undersized, strong.
  2. The fruit has a ripening period of almost 4 months from the appearance of the first sprouts to harvest.
  3. Ripe tomatoes can weigh up to 1.2-1.4 kg. Moreover, fruits ripening first hit the size, the rest of the crop will weigh less, each tomato will gain weight up to 0.7-0.9 kg. From one bush you can collect 5.5-6.5 kg of ripe tomatoes.
  4. The color of the peel and pulp of ripe fruits is bright red, the flesh is fleshy and sugar in appearance, and the taste is sweet, without sourness characteristic of tomatoes. In each fruit - from 4 to 7 chambers filled with seeds. Also, the tomato contains a lot of dry matter.
  5. The fruits are rounded in shape, slightly flattened, one-dimensional. Inflorescences are collected in brushes, on each of which up to 10 fruits can ripen at the same time.
  6. The fruit peel is thin and delicate. Therefore, they are prone to cracking, and also poorly tolerate transportation over long distances. Ideal for canning in general.

Do not worry if there is a green spot on the plucked fruit near the peduncle - it will disappear during ripening, especially if already ripe tomatoes lie nearby.

The variety is universal - its fruits are used fresh, the hostesses make them for winter: preserve salads, pasta, ketchup, process it for juice, and make adjika. And the soup, in which Iceberg tomato-based dressing is added, acquires an extraordinary taste.

Features of agricultural technology

Sowing seedlings for seedlings, and then replanting them in closed ground, is necessary in the first ten days of March, and for subsequent planting on beds in the garden in the third ten days of March. The first fruits usually ripen in the first ten days of August.

Features of agrotechnology of iceberg tomatoes

  1. Bushes of these tomatoes need to be formed in order to increase the quality and weight of future fruits. When grown in greenhouses, two stems are left on each bush. For the same purpose, stepsons should be removed. Plants in open ground do not stepson.
  2. Important! This variety grows well both on beds in open ground, and in greenhouse conditions.
  3. The variety is medium resistant to major diseases affecting tomato bushes, as well as to the vagaries of nature. But these tomatoes tolerate drought well, so if summer residents are not able to irrigate regularly, it is unlikely to affect the fruiting of the Iceberg.
  4. The place for the location of the variety is better to choose illuminated, but with protection from the effects of wind. An important agricultural technique is weed removal and regular watering.
  5. A good supply of nutrients to the soil will ensure excellent fruiting of the bushes.The variety can be grown without tying, but for convenience when harvesting, cultivation on trellises is recommended.

The variety can be grown from seeds, planting them directly in the ground. The first month of seedling growth is the most important in caring for a tomato.

With a lack of nitrogen, the stem, leaves and fruits change color: the leaves turn yellow, the stem becomes reddish, the fruits harden, become smaller. Do not wait for such a picture, feed the plants with complex fertilizers.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

The main advantages of this variety include:

  • excellent taste of the fruit;
  • large fruit size;
  • high productivity;
  • tomato bushes tolerate drought;
  • seeds can later be used for planting.

But tomato Iceberg has its drawbacks:

  1. Due to the thin skin, ripe fruits do not tolerate transportation well and are not stored for long.
  2. Tomato bushes have a low resistance to disease and weather vagaries.

Despite the fact that these tomatoes appeared relatively recently, but those summer residents who already cultivated Iceberg tomatoes in their plots managed to evaluate their positive qualities. Therefore, the popularity of the variety is growing every year.
