A distinctive feature of plants is potato leaves. Fruits are rounded, slightly flattened. With proper agricultural technology, ripe fruits can weigh 300-550 g, quite often grow tomatoes weighing up to one kilogram. This variety of exotic tomatoes was bred recently. The variety was created for the purpose of year-round cultivation in greenhouses and other types of shelters.
Grapefruit is a medium-late indeterminate crop variety. When grown indoors, you can get a crop throughout the year. The plant has an average yield, over the summer it is possible to collect up to 16 large fruits from one plant.
- The plant is resistant to various diseases. Grapefruit is a late variety (170 days), provided that the plant is planted in mid-latitudes. In this case, the crop is harvested at the end of September.
- Tomato Grapefruit is formed into one, two or three stems. The highest yield is provided by a bush formed of three stems, but this cannot be considered the rule.
- Fully ripened fruits turn pink with a yellow tint. In a section, a tomato is similar to a grapefruit. The fruits are juicy and sweet, it is best to eat them fresh.
- A high concentration of solids gives the pulp of the tomato excessive meatiness. Preserving these tomatoes as a whole is rather inconvenient. In the seed chambers, a small number of seeds ripen.
Cultivation and care
It is possible to grow an early crop of tomato Grapefruit in the open ground under a shelter from a plastic film. Most gardeners prefer closed ground. Today, many garden plots have greenhouses - different in design and size. It can be built gable, no matter what the snow lingers, the outer coating is made of glass, and the inside is film. Double coating allows you to keep the heat accumulated per day longer.

Of great importance is the preparation of the soil for planting seedlings.
- In the greenhouse, you need to dig two ditches 60-70 cm deep. Thin branches of different plants, most often raspberries, should be scattered on the bottom with a layer of 20 cm, and they have the same layer of dry leaves. After that we put straw manure and thirty centimeters of a mixture of compost soil, peat, into which we add lime, wood ash and superphosphate.
- It is good to install an earthen thermometer and a borotherm hygrometer in the greenhouse. The last device will show not only the air temperature, but also its relative humidity, which is important to know when caring for plants.
- Tomato Grapefruit is formed into one, two or three stems. In warm summers, the highest yield is provided by a bush formed of three stems, but this cannot be considered the rule. It is most rational to leave two stems on the bush when growing a tomato in a greenhouse.
- Excessive stepchildren should be removed when they reach a length of 3-5 cm. If this is not done, then all the energy of the plant will go to the formation of green mass, which will cause a decrease in yield. At the beginning of fruiting, the bushes spud with additionally introduced soil. Before the end of the growing season, pinch the tops of the stems.
How to collect seeds
Grapefruit can be used to harvest seeds for cultivation in subsequent years. For this purpose, it is important to select healthy, productive bushes typical of the variety, and to remove ripe fruits from the second or third brush. They should be cut across, take out and transfer the seeds along with the juice into a small bowl with a teaspoon, in which three seeds must be aged at room temperature.
After that, the seeds are washed under running water, they are examined carefully under a magnifying glass. On some, you can see dark dots. These are necrotic lesions that carry viral diseases. Such seeds must be removed, the rest dried on filter paper. They should be stored in a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid.
