Description and characteristics of the variety

The Pygmy variety differs from most other tomatoes in its miniature size. An adult bush grows to only 30 cm in height. If we compare them with those fruits that are usually grown in a garden or greenhouse, then they look very tiny, real "little ones." In the palm of their hands can fit up to 20 pieces, or even more.

The variety belongs to the determinant type and does not require pinching. It does not need to be tied to supports, like many other varieties. No formation required. Has straight standing stems, leafy. The density of the leaves is average.

The first fruits begin their formation from the 6th or 7th leaf, the rest - through the leaf. The ovaries form inflorescences in the form of brushes, which contain from 5 to 7 pieces of fruit.

The variety belongs to the early maturing. For the formation of full, ripe fruits from the time of transplanting, seedlings require no more than three months. The mass of an individual fruit is from 24 to 26 grams. All fruits are the same size and look very aesthetically pleasing, both on the bush and on the table. They have the shape of an even circle. The skin is smooth and pleasant to the touch, dense, perfectly protects the fruits from damage. They contain more dry matter than other grades, up to 10%.

Taking into account the size of an adult plant, its fruits, we can say: high productivity - up to 5 kg per square meter. The fruits can be used both for fresh consumption and processed, for example, for preservation.

Interesting fact: the taste of tomatoes directly depends on the climate in which they grew. So, if the fruits formed in cold climatic conditions, they will be acidic, but if in hot conditions - sweet. In any case, they are tasty, and will have both a festive and an ordinary table.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

The variety has its own strengths and weaknesses. So, among the advantages, the following can be distinguished:

Pygmy Tomatoes

  1. The ability to grow a variety in an apartment: on a loggia, balcony or just a windowsill. In addition, they can be used as a seal in greenhouses, flower beds.
  2. Resistant to damage.
  3. Well-developed immune system, resistance to insect pests, as well as to various kinds of diseases characteristic of tomatoes (among them late blight).
  4. Aesthetic view of shrubs - they will perfectly decorate a summer cottage, a balcony or a loggia.

Among the shortcomings, one can note with a stretch the small size of the bushes, as well as the fruits themselves.

Care Features

  1. Typically, the variety "Pygmy" is grown using seedlings. Seeds are sown in April, and dive during the formation of two green full leaves. Diving is carried out to a depth of 1.5 cm. You can also apply a growing method such as planting seeds directly in open ground.
  2. When planting seedlings at a constant place of growth, watering is carried out immediately. It should be moderate and preferably at room temperature.
  3. It is imperative to loosen the soil some time after watering, since under the weight of the water it is compacted, it becomes dense and oxygen access to the root system is limited.
  4. It is important to carry out weeding, removing weeds in a timely manner.Excess grass picks up nutrients needed by the plant, as a result of which its growth may slow down.
  5. To apply fertilizer is enough 2 - 3 times per season. Top dressing can be both mineral and organic.
  6. The bushes love spraying, so from time to time they can arrange a “shower” from the spray gun. This will remove the settled dust from plants (those that grow indoors), and will also become a prevention against pests.

The Pygmy tomato variety is just a godsend for all those who dream of growing vegetables and do not have a summer cottage. Their miniature, compact size allows you to grow and receive delicious fruits at home, in the apartment. They grow well in open areas. The variety is unpretentious in care and responsive to feeding. Decorative bushes perfectly decorate any place where they will be planted. The taste of the fruit may be sour or sweet, depending on climatic conditions. Despite this, they will come to any table. They can be consumed fresh without cutting, as well as in canning in its entirety.
