Why starch things

To give the image elegance and completeness, it is enough to pay due attention to detail. Starchy rims near the skirt, a belt of high short Bermuda shorts, cuffs and, of course, a shirt collar - all these details cannot be imagined without the use of starch. The overall look looks expensive and neat, which greatly increases the respect of others.

As for tablecloths, cotton towels, and napkins for kitchen appliances, they look clean and stylish. Due to the specific glossy shine, the table takes on a solemn appearance even in everyday life.

An important reason for the use of starch on things is practicality. After the procedure, a thin invisible film forms on the surface of the product, which prevents dirt from entering the fabric structure and simplifies the washing process. Also starched things practically do not crumple.

If the procedure takes place on bedding, it becomes fresh and crispy. The scope is wide enough, starch is used to smooth lace and knitwear.

Preparation
Before preparing a solution of starch, a thorough inspection of the product is necessary. Make sure that the clothes are not yellow or greasy, otherwise you will need to remove them.

  1. If you decide to starch a shirt that for some reason has turned gray or yellow, you can bleach it beforehand. For these purposes, use a 6% solution of hydrogen peroxide diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 3. Soak the product in the composition, wait 10 minutes, then wash in the machine using bleaching powder.
  2. To remove wine stains or the remnants of fruit juice, use a mixture of vodka with glycerin. Mix in a container of 50 gr. vodka and 35 ml. glycerin, let it brew for 10 minutes, then apply locally on the spots. Wait 15 minutes, then send the product to the washing machine.
  3. It perfectly removes stubborn dirt and eliminates the characteristic shade of "old" things soap marked "Antipyatin". You can also treat the product with household or tar soap with a maximum amount of active ingredient (60–72%). Such tools have proven themselves well, since they quickly remove stains of any complexity (grease, wine, wax, mold, rust, etc.).

After you have cleaned your clothes, you can safely proceed to the procedure.

Technology
There are several cycles of starching things: soft, medium and hard.

A soft cycle should be chosen in cases where you need to starch things from chiffon, fine knitwear or cambric.

Medium intensity is suitable for bedding, cotton towels, napkins, tablecloths, shirts, blouses and other similar categories of things.

A rigid cycle is preferred for products whose individual parts require stiffening (cuffs, collar, skirt / short edge, table napkins for appliances). It is also used to craft handmade items.

Regardless of the type you choose, to start the procedure you need to take care of the presence of starch. It does not matter what type it will be: corn, potato, wheat.

Soft cycle
Soft starch cycle

  1. Pour 1 liter of room temperature water into a pan or other heat-resistant dishes, slowly pour 40 g. starch while stirring. For convenience, you can pre-pass the dry starch through a sieve to prevent the formation of lumps.
  2. Add a little boiling water to the prepared solution to get a completely clear liquid. If you notice that the turbidity does not disappear, put the pan on the stove and wait until it boils (4-8 minutes).
  3. If the liquid is viscous, pour a little room temperature water into the solution. Pass the resulting solution through several layers of gauze, completely eliminating lumps.
  4. Pour the composition into the basin, place the product and stir a little so that the thing is saturated. Wrap the container with polyethylene, leave for half an hour.
  5. At the end of the period, remove the product, squeeze it a little, but do not twist it into a tourniquet so as not to damage the fabric structure.
  6. Hang clothes on a coat hanger and leave to dry at room temperature. Do not hang the product in the sun or leave it to dry next to heating appliances, otherwise the clothes will not be possible to smooth out in the future.

Medium cycle
The amount of ingredients is calculated on a medium-sized women's blouse. If necessary, increase the number of components, observing the proportions.

  1. Sift the starch through a fine sieve or use 5 layers of gauze / bandage.
  2. Take a small pan and pour boiling water over it to make the dishes hot. Now pour 1.2 liters of water at room temperature, add 60 g. starch. Make sure that there are no lumps. Stir the solution at the same time as adding.
  3. Add to the pan with a mixture of 500-800 ml. hot filtered water to form a translucent mixture. In cases where the solution is too turbid, boil it, stirring thoroughly.
  4. Remove the composition from the stove, slowly pour another 300 ml. filtered water. Strain the solution with gauze or a bandage to remove any lumps.
  5. Take a tall basin or other container, then pour the solution there. Lower the product and stir a little.
  6. Wrap the bowl with cling film, wait 30-60 minutes. After the time has passed, remove the item, squeeze it slightly and hang to dry at room temperature.

The technology for the preparation of "glossy" starch medium cycle
As a rule, the need to use a glossy solution appears when processing bedding or a tablecloth. The invisible film resulting from the use of the composition takes shape. The canvas begins to shine, and the product does not stick to the iron while ironing.

The technology for the preparation of glossy starch medium cycle

There are several ways to prepare a gloss, we will consider each of them.

  1. Mix 25 gr. chopped salt with 5 gr. gelatin, wait for the swelling, pour the composition into the solution.
  2. Prepare a borax solution. Dilute 35 g. powder in 350 ml. boiling water, mix, wait until it cools to room temperature, add to the mixture.
  3. Buy fragrance-free talcum powder in a pharmacy, mix 50 gr. dusting powder with 80 gr. starch, then pour 20 g. borax powder. Add to the existing solution, wait for dissolution.

Hard cycle
The main difference in the hard cycle procedure is the use of a large amount of starch. As mentioned earlier, the composition is used to process individual parts of the product.

  1. Dilute in 800 ml. cool water 50 gr. starch, stir the composition with a fork or knife (not a spoon!).
  2. Dilute the solution with boiling water to obtain a translucent mixture. Otherwise, heat the composition in a water bath for 5-10 minutes.
  3. Strain the product through 4 layers of gauze, make sure that there are no lumps.
  4. Pour the solution into a wide container so that the individual parts of the product fit there.
  5. Soak the collar, cuffs, hem of the skirt, etc. in the resulting solution, leave for half an hour.
  6. Lay out a white cloth on a flat surface (a sheet will do). Place the product so that no wrinkles form on the treated area.
  7. Cover on top with a piece of cotton cloth, wait 1 hour, then hang on a coat hanger and leave to dry.

You can starch things at home, you just need to follow the sequence and choose the optimal cycle for the procedure. Use the solution is on clothes made from completely natural fibers, starch is not suitable for processing products from synthetics and semi-synthetics.
