How to drip drops in your ear: tips

A small draft or hypothermia is enough for the appearance of otitis media, which will have to be treated comprehensively. An otolaryngologist may prescribe antibiotics, antifungal drugs, and drops. Pills act on the whole body, removing inflammation and destroying the source of infection, and the liquid remedy works locally, eliminating headaches and secretions. How to bury ears to remove symptoms of otitis media and accelerate recovery?

How to instill drops in ears

Stage 1: Preparation

Sulfur is constantly accumulating in the ear canals. The body produces a substance to trap particles of dust and dirt, which, if it enters the eardrum, can damage the thin septum. During inflammation, a small amount of pus is secreted by the ears along with sulfur. Both substances mix and settle on the walls of the ear canals, preventing the absorption of drops. In order for the medications to work as they should, you need to thoroughly clean your ears before instillation, but this procedure has nuances.

Water should not enter the inflamed auditory organs, therefore, water and soap should be forgotten until complete recovery. Doctors recommend acquiring special ear sticks that are different from regular cotton buds. If the latter have an oblong shape and are completely placed in the auditory meatus, the former resemble a hula. Such sticks have a thin tip and a wide base that does not crawl into the ear.

Why such an unusual shape? Sulfur deposit covers the entire auditory meatus, but only the layer located at the entrance needs to be removed. The body removes a sticky substance mixed with dirt to cleanse the ears of excess, and if you enter a cotton swab too deeply, you can push the secretions back. A sulfur plug is formed, which clogs the channels and causes partial hearing loss.

A cotton swab can be moistened with water or a peroxide solution to disinfect the auricle. It is necessary to squeeze out the excess fluid so that it does not get into the inflamed auditory canal. Water or peroxide must be warmed up to room temperature.

Carefully insert a cotton swab into the ear canal and turn it once or twice around its own axis. If a yellowish or grayish coating remains on the tip, take a new cleaning accessory and repeat the manipulations. It is necessary that in the ear there is no sulfur and pus. After hygienic procedures, throw away dirty cotton buds, rinse your hands with antibacterial soap and remove drops from the medicine cabinet.

Stage 2: Work with the medicine

Hold the bottle with the solution in your hand for 10–20 minutes or dip into a container with hot water. Drops should be warm. And too cold, and hot means when they get into the ear cause vasospasm. Headaches occur, doubles in the eyes, and some patients lose consciousness. Only instill a solution warmed to room temperature.

Suspensions should be thoroughly shaken so that the dry precipitate dissolves in the liquid. First warm up the bottle, and then actively shake for 10-15 seconds.

Opening the bottle with drops, you should carefully examine the tip of the pipette. On some specimens, there are scuffs or sticking pieces of plastic that can injure the skin of the ear canal. If you have to bury the ear of the baby, the pipette is recommended to warm in hot water.

Stage 3: Treatment

Put the patient's head on a pillow, turn on the right or left side so that the inflamed ear is on top. Pipette a little medicine and inject it 5-6 mm into the ear canal. Do not push too deep so as not to damage the eardrum.

Ear should be slightly pulled:

  • in a child up to 2-3 years old down and a little back;
  • in an adult up and slightly press down to the skull.

What for? To open the ear canal for drops. After instillation, press on the protruding part of the ear located at the cheek. When pressed, the tragus helps the solution penetrate as deep as possible.

The pipette must not come into contact with the auditory meatus, otherwise bacteria or fungal particles may remain on it. After use, this tool should be wiped with alcohol or a cotton swab dipped in peroxide.

When the drops flow down the ear canal, you can not stand up sharply. You need to lie down for at least 5 minutes for the medicine to start working. Further, the ear should be plugged with a small piece of cotton wool, which will warm and absorb the remaining solution. Remove the cork after 30 minutes and discard; it cannot be reused. If the inflammation has spread to both ears, you should roll on the other side and repeat the manipulation of the drops.

During treatment and after recovery, hearing organs should be protected from drafts and water. Follow all the recommendations of the otolaryngologist and not be surprised if the doctor prescribes not only ear drops, but also a medicine for the nose, because these organs are interconnected, and often a runny nose or sinusitis leads to the development of otitis media. Therefore, it is important to treat caries and diseases of the nasopharynx in a timely manner, visit the otolaryngologist at the first symptoms of inflammation, and correctly use ear drops.
